june 10%: northwest family life
Q Cafe is pleased to support Northwest Family Life by giving back 10% of our June cafe sales to their organization. What is Northwest Family Life?
The mission of Northwest Family Life is “to assist individuals and families in finding hope and healing when faced with the pain of domestic violence and related issues.” We come along side those who are willing to make changes in their destructive relationships. It is very difficult to face the pain, and to make public what has happened behind closed doors. It involves taking responsibility for those behaviors, and making changes that endure.

democracy at q cafe
Today, Q Cafe was a host for one of the state caucuses. It was a little crazy as the turnout was beyond what anyone expected. We want to thank each person for their cooperation in making things run smoothly. For the majority of folks that came, we know that this was your first exposure to our non-profit neighborhood cafe and we hope that you'll come back to enjoy our space during our normal business hours. We promise that the lines won't be out the door for a block!
Here are some pics from today's caucus at Q Cafe. If you've got some pics of the event that you don't mind sharing, please email them to office[at]qcafe[dot].org.
saturday caucus
For those that have been contacting us, it is true that one of the Democratic Precinct Caucus will be held at Q Cafe this Saturday at 1pm. The cafe itself does not have any political affiliation but rather, seeks to serve our neighborhood and larger city.
Because of the crowd expected to be present, please view the parking options.
new website
We've put together this new website. We decided to move to a blog driven platform so that there might be a more dynamic flow of info, news, pics, and stuff. Clearly not as aesthetically beautiful as our previous website. Many thanks to Hage Creative for the previous website which they designed as a service to us. Also, many thanks to Hage Creative, Leo Chen Photography, and
qcafe now re-open!
After a month of closing the Q Cafe to rest and re-examine our identity and purpose, we are very excited to re-open our doors today [redeem your coupon]. As we marked our 5 year anniversary recently, I am thankful for the many things we've accomplished over those years. But, I've also learned how unsustainable it was to pursue all that we initially wanted to do. In a sense, we wanted to change the world. Now, we're rebooting with the hope of simply being a great neighborhood cafe. As I work with our newly forming Advisory Board, I've been trying to explain to our potential new customers that our identity is:
"Q Cafe is a neighborhood non-profit cafe featuring espresso and tea, art, live music, and community events."
community cause
Q Cafe is a neighborhood community that seeks to care more than just the bottom line. While desiring to be a great cafe with great coffee and tea, we also want to be committed both to the local community and global world. Because of this commitment, there are three main things we seek to do:

ONE | Partner with roasters or providers that serve fair trade/direct trade coffee and exhibit a growing commitment and relationship with local coffee farmers and environment.
TWO | 10% of all cafe sales go to outside local and global non-profit organizations. Each month's receipient will also be highlighted through the cafe website to raise awareness.
THREE | Host events - fundraisers, film screenings, benefit music shows, discussions groups - to help raise awareness on local and global causes and issues.
